肩负推动州首府篮运的责任，亚庇篮总在这半个世纪以来，承办过廿多项大小国际性，全国性或全州性的篮球竞赛。
这包括与大马篮总及沙巴篮总携手主办的盛会，其中最为经典及最大型的赛事，即是20年前(1990年) 主办的第11届世界女子篮球锦标赛初赛圈，在前一年(1988年) 主办了世界奥林匹克女子(B组) 篮球外围赛，这皆是沙巴篮总与亚庇篮总引以为荣的努力。
同时，亚庇篮总也在九十年代主办过两届(1994年及1997年) 国际篮球邀请赛，为本州篮坛写下了光辉的一页！
除此之外，也分别于1982年主办了第24届全国元首杯篮赛，以及1999年承办了第8届全国十六岁以下少年篮赛。
在全州赛方面，亚庇篮总共举办了6届沙巴杯甲组赛(1968年、1979年( 工商杯)、1989年、2001年、2005年、2013) 与6届全州18岁以下篮赛(1968年、1982年、1991年、1999年、2004年、2011年)。
至于由亚庇、汶莱、美里及纳闽轮流主办的婆罗洲城市杯篮赛，亚庇篮总则在十九年里，主办了七届，分别在2000年、2004年、2008年、2011年、2015年、2019年和2026年。
Carrying the responsibility of promoting basketball in the state capital, the Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) has hosted over 20 major international, national, and state-level basketball competitions over the past half-century.
These events include grand spectacles organized in collaboration with the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) and the Sabah Basketball Association (SBA). Among the most prestigious was the preliminary round of the 11th FIBA World Championship for Women held 20 years ago (1990). A year prior (1988), KKBA also hosted the World Olympic Women’s Basketball Qualifying Tournament (Group B). These milestones remain the proudest achievements of both the Sabah and Kota Kinabalu basketball associations.
Furthermore, KKBA hosted two International Basketball Invitational Tournaments in the 1990s (1994 and 1997), marking a glorious chapter in the state’s basketball history.
Other notable hosted events include:
- The 24th National Agong Cup (1982)
- The 8th National U16 Junior Basketball Championship (1999)
- The Sabah Cup (6 editions): 1968, 1979 (Commercial Cup), 1989, 2001, 2005, and 2013.
- State U18 Championship (6 editions): 1968, 1982, 1991, 1999, 2004, and 2011.
- Borneo City Cup: Hosted 7 times over 19 years (2000, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2026).
主办全州赛
根据篮坛历史记载，五十年代已有举办「贺恩杯」（仅限庇根对抗赛），直至亚庇篮总创会之后，所主办的亚庇篮总杯才在1959年才公开全州各地参赛，翌年(1960年)也就接办了三邦金杯篮赛，当时沙巴、砂拉越及汶莱尚未加入马来西亚，来自三方的球队在亚庇聚首，是本州首次跨州性的盛事。
随着沙巴杯于1965年正式主办之后，斗湖男队称霸了三届，直至1968年轮值亚庇举办，才终于夺下了沙巴杯，到了1989年，沙巴篮总采取分区赛制后，亚庇篮总承办了第1届沙巴杯分区赛( 决赛圈)，到了1993年复办县际性质的沙巴杯，亚庇苦等至2001年才有份主办，也在同年拿下了男子组冠军，2005年又获得主办权，在主场优势下，亚庇男队也再度为县争光！
到了2013年，亚庇主办第22届沙巴杯，吸引了12支男队及8支女队赴会，亚庇也再次排除万难，在自家门口实现了三连冠的梦想！
在全州18岁以下篮赛方面，亚庇篮总早在1968年主办第2届赛会，也等到1982年才有机会再主办，在承办的6届里，亚庇篮总往往是为他人作嫁衣，只有2004年的第35届赛事上，亚庇女队拿下了历史上的第3个冠军。
到了2011年，时机成熟的亚庇篮总主办了第42届全州18岁以下篮赛，占尽天时地利人和的优势下，夺得男女双料冠军。
也因为2013年大马篮总开始主办全国20岁以下分区赛，为了争取派队的机会，沙巴篮总承办了第1届全州20岁以下篮赛，有5 支男队及3 支队伍以球会或俱乐部的名誉，相信反应不热烈之故，是项全州赛只办了1届而己。
惟一遗憾的是，亚庇篮总廿多年以来从未授权主办过全州十六岁以下篮赛，反观有些县区已主办了三次都还没轮值亚庇承办，直至2015年，沙巴篮总才正式委托第23届全州15岁以下篮赛。
Hosting State Championships
According to historical records, the “Hone Cup” (limited to Jesselton-Town matches) was held as early as the 1950s. It wasn’t until the founding of KKBA that the KKBA Cup opened its doors to teams across the state in 1959. In 1960, KKBA hosted the Three-Nation Gold Cup, featuring teams from Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei before they joined Malaysia—the first major cross-regional event in the state.
When the Sabah Cup was officially established in 1965, the Tawau Men’s team dominated for three years until KK hosted the event in 1968 and finally claimed the trophy.
In 2013, the 22nd Sabah Cup attracted 12 Men’s and 8 Women’s teams; KK successfully defended its home court to achieve a three-year winning streak.
In the State U18 Championship, KKBA hosted the 2nd edition in 1968 but had to wait until 2004 for a home-court victory when the KK Girl’s team won their third title.
By 2011, a well-prepared KKBA hosted the 42nd edition and swept both the Boy’s and Girl’s titles.
Due to MABA launching the National U20 Zonal Championships in 2013, the Sabah Basketball Association (SBA) organized the 1st State U20 Basketball Championship to determine team representation. The event featured 5 men’s and 3 women’s teams competing under club or association names; however, likely due to a lukewarm response, this state-level tournament was held only once.
A notable gap exists in the State U16 (now U15) Championship; despite other districts hosting it multiple times, KKBA did not receive the mandate for over 20 years until SABA officially entrusted them with the 23rd State U15 Championship in 2015.
第11届世界女子篮球锦标赛初赛圈
在1990年，沙巴很荣幸地承办了第十一届世界女子篮球锦标赛初赛圈，当时大马篮总安排亚庇主办B组和D组初赛，而古晋则举行A 组和C组的赛事，至于远道而来的球队包括了了B组的巴西、加拿大、日本、苏联及D组的中国、古巴、南斯拉夫与扎伊尔。
这两组赛事订在1990年7月12至14日假里卡士体育馆举行，两组胜出的四队将参加7月17日至19日吉隆坡举行的复赛、半决赛及决赛。
当时，大家最兴奋的是亲眼看到中国队被称之亚洲第一中锋郑海霞来到沙巴献技！
在B 组中，苏联胜日本103-79，加拿大胜巴西74-56，加拿大胜日本75-69，苏联胜巴西95-67，巴西胜日本91-79，苏联胜加拿大88-53，苏联凭着全胜恣态成为正盟主，加拿大为副盟主。
D组方面，南斯拉夫胜扎伊尔64-39，古巴胜中国88-84，中国胜扎伊尔69-50，南斯拉夫胜古巴75-68，古巴胜扎伊尔76-60，南斯拉夫胜中国88-70，世界亚军的南斯拉夫稳坐正盟主，与副盟主古巴携手出线。
较后，南斯拉夫女队一路顺利，在复赛勇挫苏联、澳洲及捷克，半决赛以74-66 再挫古巴，杀进决赛后与美国对决，最终以88-78 屈居亚军，至于古巴取得季军，苏联第五名，加拿大第七名，中国第九名。
世界奥林匹克女子(B组) 篮球外围赛
在1988年，沙巴篮总获得大马篮总委派下，亚庇成为了主办了奥运会篮球项目女子组外围赛的主办地点之一，当时国内有三个主办地点（另两个为怡保和马六甲）及新加坡安排主办分组赛，而亚庇则负责主办B 组的赛事，前来参赛的队伍为南斯拉夫、保加利亚、法国、泰国、扎伊尔和英国。
根据赛制，凡在小组赢得最高名次的两队，将参加吉隆坡举行外围赛决赛，而获得最高名次的六支队伍，将参加当年汉城（首尔）举行的奥运会。
这项盛会订在1988年6月6日至10日假里卡士体育馆举行。
南斯拉夫女将们尽露雄恣，后来杀入奥运会，在决赛中以70比77不敌美国屈居亚军。同时入围的保加利亚则取得赛会第五名。
11th FIBA World Championship for Women (Preliminary Round)
In 1990, Sabah was honored to host the preliminary rounds of the 11th World Women’s Basketball Championship. MABA arranged for KK to host Groups B and D, while Kuching hosted Groups A and C.
Group B teams: Brazil, Canada, Japan, and the USSR.
Group D teams: China, Cuba, Yugoslavia, and Zaire.
The highlight for local fans was seeing the legendary Zheng Haixia, then Asia’s top center, perform in Sabah.
In Group B, the USSR defeated Japan 103–79, Canada beat Brazil 74–56, and Canada edged out Japan 75–69. The USSR continued its dominance by defeating Brazil 95–67, while Brazil beat Japan 91–79. Finally, the USSR defeated Canada 88–53. With an undefeated record, the USSR emerged as the group champions, with Canada finishing as runners-up.
In Group D, Yugoslavia defeated Zaire 64–39, Cuba beat China 88–84, and China defeated Zaire 69–50. Yugoslavia then beat Cuba 75–68, while Cuba defeated Zaire 76–60. In the final group match, Yugoslavia beat China 88–70. Yugoslavia, the world silver medalists, comfortably secured the top spot and advanced to the next round alongside runners-up Cuba.
Later in the tournament, the Yugoslavian women’s team continued their successful run, defeating the USSR, Australia, and Czechoslovakia in the quarter-finals. They beat Cuba again in the semi-finals with a score of 74–66. In the grand final against the USA, they eventually finished as runners-up with an 88–78 loss. Meanwhile, Cuba took third place, the USSR finished fifth, Canada seventh, and China ninth.
World Olympic Women’s Basketball Qualifying Tournament (Group B)
In 1988, KK was selected as one of the host venues (alongside Ipoh, Malacca, and Singapore) for the Olympic Qualifiers. KK hosted Group B, featuring Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, France, Thailand, Zaire, and Great Britain.
The top six overall teams from the finals in KL qualified for the Seoul Olympics.
This grand event was scheduled to take place from June 6 to 10, 1988, at the Likas Indoor Stadium.
The Yugoslavian team displayed incredible prowess, eventually winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games.
第24届全国元首杯篮赛
元首杯于1958年创办以来，在州内共举办了6次(1970年及2015年在山打根、1990年及2013年在斗湖及2006年在古达)，沙巴篮总于1982年选择在亚庇举行了第24届元首杯，当时有13 支男队及10 支女队赴会。是项赛事订在1982年8 月2 至12 日假里卡士体育馆举行。
参赛的男队有东道主沙巴、霹雳、柔佛、槟城、马六甲、砂拉越、彭亨、雪兰莪、吉打、森美兰、武装及直辖区。
女队则有东道主沙巴、柔佛、森美兰、雪兰莪、槟城、砂拉越、霹雳、直辖区、吉打和彭亨。
结果，霹雳男队在决赛击败吉兰丹赢得冠军，彭亨则在女子组中擒下霹雳摘冠。
24th National Agong Cup Basketball Championship
Since its inception in 1958, the Agong Cup has been hosted in Sabah six times: in Sandakan (1970 and 2015), Tawau (1990 and 2013), and Kudat (2006). In 1982, the Sabah Basketball Association (SBA) selected Kota Kinabalu to host the 24th Agong Cup. The event took place from August 2 to 12, 1982, at the Likas Indoor Stadium, featuring 13 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams.
The participating Men’s teams included the hosts Sabah, Perak, Johor, Penang, Malacca, Sarawak, Pahang, Selangor, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Armed Forces (ATM), and Federal Territory (Wilayah Persekutuan).
The Women’s teams consisted of Sabah, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Sarawak, Perak, Federal Territory, Kedah, and Pahang.
Ultimately, the Perak Men’s team defeated Kelantan in the final to claim the championship, while Pahang secured the Women’s title by overcoming Perak.
第8届全国16岁以下少年篮赛
在1999年，亚庇篮总受委托主办了第8届全国16岁以下少年篮赛，比赛订在1999年12月4日至11日假里卡士体育馆举行。
这也是亚庇篮总近15年来一项重要赛事，尤其未曾拥有主办全国赛的经验，篮总理事们筹备长达半年，为赛事办得最完善，同时沙巴男队终于在会上成功赢得历史性的第一次冠军，为赛会写下完美的句点。
是届赛会吸引了10支男队及6 支女队参与其盛，男子组有东道主沙巴、槟城、柔佛、砂拉越、雪兰莪、森美兰、霹雳、吉打、吉隆坡和马六甲。
女子组则有东道主沙巴、霹雳、柔佛、雪兰莪、砂拉越和吉隆坡。
男子组共分成两组，沙巴男队被分在与超强的霹雳同组，在组赛中惟一不敌霹雳，以副盟主身份晋级四强，在半决赛中，沙男成功以39比33勇挫雪兰莪打进决赛。
在充满变化的决赛中，沙巴终于60比59的一分险胜了霹雳拿下冠军，沙巴女队则在单循环赛制下，取得二胜三负的战绩排名第三。
沙巴（亦是亚庇队）控球主将钟俊祥荣膺了赛会的三大奖项（最有价值男球员，得分王和助攻王），而中锋苏月荣取得篮板王的荣誉。
8th National U16 Junior Basketball Championship
In 1999, KKBA was entrusted to host the 8th National U16 Junior Basketball Championship, held from December 4 to 11 at the Likas Indoor Stadium.
This was a landmark event for KKBA, especially as the association had not hosted a national tournament in nearly 15 years. The committee spent six months in meticulous preparation to ensure its success. The tournament ended on a perfect note when the Sabah Men’s team made history by winning their first-ever national championship.
The tournament featured 10 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. The Men’s division included Sabah, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, and Malacca. The Women’s division featured Sabah, Perak, Johor, Selangor, Sarawak, and Kuala Lumpur.
In the Men’s division, Sabah was placed in the same group as the powerhouse Perak. After suffering their only group-stage loss to Perak, Sabah advanced to the semi-finals as group runners-up, where they defeated Selangor 39–33.
In a thrilling final, Sabah exacted revenge with a narrow 60–59 victory over Perak to seize the crown. Meanwhile, the Sabah Women’s team finished third in a round-robin format with a 2–3 record.
Sabah’s star point guard, Chung Jun Shiang, swept three major awards: Most Valuable Player (MVP), Top Scorer, and Top Assists, while center Su Yue Rong was named the Rebound King.
国际邀请赛
亚庇篮总先后在1994年与1997年主办了国际男子篮球邀请赛，首届于1994年筹办乃配合庆祝创会36周年庆典，除了设宴筹款之外。也趁此举办国际邀请赛借此打响篮总名堂。
这项篮坛盛事乃在1994年8月20至25日假沙巴嘉杜文化协会礼堂举行，由于本地难得举办国际赛，几乎每晚都吸引大量观众前往观赛，掀起了一番热潮。
经过大马篮总的安排下，前来参赛计有大马国家队、中国＂江苏钢铁厂＂、日本＂大学联＂、中华台北＂攸纮＂、菲律宾＂卡西诺＂与伊朗队。
在采取单偱环的赛制下，大马队凭着五场四胜一负（输中国），胜者为胜条例下夺下全场总冠军，亚军则是亦有四胜一负的菲律宾＂卡西诺＂队，菲队仅败在大马队而己，季军则是中华台北＂攸纮＂队，伊朗与中国各取得二胜三负，排名第四与第五，至于全战皆墨的日本排名第六。
在最后一役，大马队与台＂攸纮＂队对决中，台队因不满某个判决起哄，换下主将不愿取胜，在赛会中留下了污点。
随着首届国际赛的成功，亚庇篮总于1997年9月6至12日假里卡士体育馆主办了第二届赛事，今次邀得六支队伍赴会，初赛共分为两组，A组有韩国SBS STAR、日本广岛和大马国油队，B 组有台湾裕隆职业篮队、菲律宾及沙巴嘉利丹队。
经过一番激战后，韩国SBS STAR 台湾裕隆冲入决赛，结果韩队以88 比46 狂胜台队登上冠军宝座，至于季殿赛却大爆冷，大马国油队以67 比79不敌沙巴嘉利丹，令很多人大跌眼镜！
International Invitational Tournaments
KKBA organized International Men’s Basketball Invitational Tournaments in 1994 and 1997. The inaugural 1994 event coincided with the association’s 36th-anniversary celebrations, serving as both a fundraiser and a way to raise KKBA’s international profile.
Held from August 20 to 25, 1994, at the Sabah Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Hall, the tournament drew massive crowds every night, sparking a local basketball craze. Arranged by MABA, the participants included the Malaysian National Team, Jiangsu Steel (China), University Selection (Japan), Yu-Hung (Chinese Taipei), Casino (Philippines), and Iran.
Under a round-robin format, Malaysia secured the overall championship with a 4–1 record (their only loss was to China). The Philippines’ Casino team finished as runners-up (also 4–1, losing only to Malaysia), followed by Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Hung in third. Iran and China finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Japan finished sixth. The final match between Malaysia and Yu-Hung was marred by controversy when the Taipei team, dissatisfied with a referee’s decision, benched their starters and conceded the game.
Following the success of the first tournament, KKBA hosted the second edition from September 6 to 12, 1997, at the Likas Indoor Stadium. Group A featured SBS Star (South Korea), Hiroshima (Japan), and Petronas (Malaysia). Group B included Yulon (Taiwan), the Philippines, and Sabah Caritany.
In the final, SBS Star dominated Yulon with an 88–46 victory to take the title. The third-place playoff provided a major upset as Sabah Caritany defeated the Malaysian Petronas team 79–67, a result that stunned many spectators.
