Introduction to the KKBA Challenge Trophy
挑战杯，或称之“ 常年杯”，顾名思义是经过艰难挑战才能够赢得的终极荣誉，也许有全州赛以来，就已经有挑战杯的设立，即是只有连续三年赢得冠军的队伍才可以棒走这座挑战杯，久而久之，已成为了队伍参赛的最终目标。
亚庇篮总经过了逾是20 年的努力下，终于夺走了21 座挑战杯，其中沙巴杯占了4 座(2 男2 女)、全州18 岁以下有7座(2 男5 女)、全州16 岁以下7 座(3 男4 女) 以及婆罗洲杯有3 座(2 女1 宿将)。
这些充满传奇性的挑战宝座，有部份看起来已经过于残旧，曾问及是否需要进行翻修，但最终还是没有采取行动，这是希望能够继续保留其“ 历史的痕迹”，尤其部份的奖杯已超过了20 年，是经过了很多冠军队伍及球员的触摸, 正所谓是教练与球员的汗水所争取回来的荣誉，它们已经不再是造型漂亮、高矮或褪色与否，反而是象征了亚庇篮总长久以来的奋斗岁月，也见证了亚庇篮总过去的光辉岁月。
亚庇篮总特地展示了这些已封尘的挑战杯，希望当年有份争夺这份荣誉的球员与教练可以从中愐怀他们的黄金岁月，也让大家在现场感受这些挑战杯的魅力，因为这一切都是大家留给亚庇篮总的珍贵“ 宝藏”，大家可以触摸及棒起这些奖杯，与你们拍照留念，但是小心不要破坏它们。
亚庇篮总前任秘书长张立铮曾指出：「挑战杯的价值不再于奖杯的本身，而是如何成功夺冠背后的故事。 」
The Challenge Trophy, also known as the “Perpetual Trophy,” is—as the name implies—the ultimate honor earned only through grueling competition. Since the inception of the state-level championships, these cups have stood as the pinnacle of achievement: only a team that secures the championship for three consecutive years earns the right to claim the trophy permanently. Over time, winning the Challenge Cup has become the ultimate goal for every competing team.
Through more than 20 years of relentless effort, the Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) has successfully captured 21 Challenge Cups. This impressive collection includes: 4 Sabah Cups (2 Men’s, 2 Women’s), 7 State U-18 Cups (2 Men’s, 5 Women’s), 7 State U-16 Cups (3 Men’s, 4 Women’s), 3 Borneo Cups (2 Women’s, 1 Veteran’s)
Some of these legendary trophies appear weathered and aged. While the idea of refurbishing them was considered, it was ultimately decided to leave them untouched to preserve their “marks of history.” Many of these cups are over 20 years old and have passed through the hands of countless champions. They are stained with the literal sweat of coaches and players who fought for this honor. Their value no longer lies in their aesthetic design, height, or the luster of their finish; instead, they serve as symbols of KKBA’s long years of struggle and witnesses to our past golden eras.
KKBA has specially put these storied trophies on display, hoping that the players and coaches who once fought for them can reminisce about their “golden years.” We invite everyone to experience the charisma of these cups firsthand, for they are the precious treasures you have left to the association. You are welcome to touch, hold, and take photos with them—but please handle them with care to ensure they are not damaged.
As the former Secretary-General of KKBA, Teo Lip Ching, once remarked:
“The true value of a Challenge Cup lies not in the trophy itself, but in the story of the journey taken to win it.”
现今州内最高荣誉的沙巴杯（成年组赛事），是始于1993年京那巴当岸举行，直至1997年拿笃男队成功实现了三连冠的创举，接着长达16年里，再也没有其他队伍成功完成三连霸的梦想,其中斗湖、兵南邦及京那巴当岸皆曾经拿过二连冠，直至亚庇在2011年在哥打毛鲁都荣夺冠军后，隔年(2012)在丹南再棒杯，2013年在亚庇举行的沙巴杯赛事，击败了兵南邦及京那巴当岸等强旅，才实现了第一次的三连冠霸业，也棒走了这个历史悠久的挑战杯。
对于亚庇篮总来说，这是一个不简单的任务，尤其强队如林的沙巴杯赛事中，亚庇男队只成功在2001及2005两度棒杯之外，都不曾登上冠军宝座，因此这座挑战杯一直是亚庇篮总最珍贵的宝座，也是份量最重的奖杯。
Sabah Cup (Men) 2011-2013
Sabah Cup (Men Category), currently the highest honor in the state, traces its current era back to the 1993 tournament held in Kinabatangan. It wasn’t until 1997 that the Lahad Datu men’s team made history by achieving the first “three-peat” (three consecutive championships). For the next 16 years, the dream of a three-year reign remained elusive for every other team. While Tawau, Penampang, and Kinabatangan all managed to secure back-to-back titles, none could clinch the third.
The drought finally ended for the Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) starting in 2011, when they took the crown in Kota Marudu. This was followed by another victory in Tenom in 2012. Finally, at the 2013 Sabah Cup held on their home turf in Kota Kinabalu, the team defeated powerhouse rivals such as Penampang and Kinabatangan to complete their first-ever three-consecutive-year hegemony, officially claiming this historic Challenge Cup for good.
For KKBA, this was no small feat. In the highly competitive arena of the Sabah Cup—where elite teams are plenty—the KK men’s team had only managed to lift the trophy twice before (in 2001 and 2005) without ever defending it successfully. Consequently, this specific Challenge Cup remains the most cherished and prestigious trophy in the KKBA collection.
随着2013完成了第一次的三连冠，亚庇男队再接再厉，从2014年开始继续奋发，凭着一批年轻杰出的球员助阵下，也在2016年拿笃再度创下三连冠，棒起了亚庇篮总的第二个挑战杯，而且也写下了六连冠的历史记录。
首先，亚庇男队在2014年仙本那夺冠，隔年(2015)在京那巴当岸又次称霸，2016年则在拿笃实现了三连冠之目标。
Sabah Cup (Men) 2014-2016
Building on the momentum of their first “three-peat” in 2013, the Kota Kinabalu (KK) men’s team pushed forward with even greater resolve. From 2014 onwards, bolstered by a cohort of outstanding young talent, the team once again achieved three consecutive titles at the 2016 tournament in Lahad Datu. This feat allowed them to claim KKBA’s second Challenge Cup and set a historic record of six consecutive championships.
The journey to this second trophy began when the KK men’s team took the title in Semporna in 2014, followed by another dominant performance in Kinabatangan in 2015. Finally, in 2016, they successfully realized their goal of a three-year reign in Lahad Datu.
自1993年开办的沙巴杯赛事以来，亚庇女队的表现乏善可陈，将近16年都没有交出好成绩，只能屈居亚军而己，直到2009年拿笃举行的第17届赛事上，亚庇女队终于把老对手们击败，摘下了史上的第一个冠军。
由于亚庇女队由于年轻实力不逊的球员所组成，开始横扫了对手，隔年(2010)在斗湖夺下冠军，接着也在哥打毛鲁都与亚庇男队一起拿下双料冠军，但是对亚庇篮总来说，更有意义的是，亚庇女队写下了史上的第一个三连冠。
Sabah Cup (Women) 2009-2011
Since the inception of the Sabah Cup in 1993, the performance of the KK women’s team had been lackluster. For nearly 16 years, they failed to deliver significant results, often finding themselves relegated to the runner-up spot. This changed at the 17th edition of the tournament held in Lahad Datu in 2009, where the KK women finally overcame their long-time rivals to capture their first-ever championship title.
Composed of talented and formidable young players, the team began to sweep aside the competition. They secured the championship in Tawau the following year (2010), and in 2011, they achieved a “double crown” alongside the KK men’s team in Kota Marudu. For the KKBA, however, the even more significant milestone was that the women’s team had officially recorded their first-ever “three-peat” in history.
随着一批老班底的教练及球员相继离开，亚庇女队于2013年的自家门口不敌兵南邦，输掉了冠军，也终止亚庇女队四连冠的霸业。
但是，随着陈瑞清、陈金梅及陈万云的根地咬女将们加盟后，亚庇女队又重新出发，开始另一轮征伐之路途，先在2014年仙本那夺回冠军后，隔年(2015)也在京那巴当岸保住了冠军，2016年在拿笃写下了史上的第二个三连冠，而且亚庇男队也在这一年实现了第二个三连冠。
Sabah Cup (Women) 2014-2016
Following the departure of several veteran coaches and players, the KK women’s team suffered a defeat against Penampang on their home turf in 2013. This loss cost them the championship and brought their dominant four-year winning streak to an end.
However, the team found new life with the addition of Keningau stars Tan Shui Qing, Tan Kim Boey, and Tan Wan Yun. Embarking on a new era of dominance, the KK women first reclaimed the title in Semporna in 2014, followed by a successful defense in Kinabatangan in 2015. By 2016, they secured their second-ever “three-peat” in Lahad Datu—a historic year that saw both the KK men’s and women’s teams achieving their second triple-championship milestones simultaneously.

从1967年发起的全州18岁以下赛事，亚庇男队将近35年都没有染指冠军的机会，直到2002年才在斗湖拿下了史上的第一个冠军，但是其三连冠的霸业要等到2009年才真正开始。
在2009年兵南邦举行的第40届赛事上，亚庇男队在决赛中勇挫了山打根，成功拿到了相隔7年后的冠军，但是万万想不到的是，接着的两年也成功保住了冠军，并在2011年亚庇的赛事上终于实现了三连冠的霸业。
根据所获的赛会记录，这座挑战杯要追溯到1989年，即是前一年由斗湖完成了四连冠后，次年由纳闽中断了冠军，接着就长达22年没有队伍可以再次称霸三次，因此这座挑战杯是亚庇篮总所收藏的“最老宝座”。
Sabah U18 (Boys) 2009-2011
Since the inception of the State Under-18 Championships in 1967, the KK boy’s team went nearly 35 years without a taste of championship glory. It wasn’t until 2002 in Tawau that they captured their first-ever title, but their era of true dominance—the coveted “three-peat”—would not begin until 2009.
At the 40th edition of the tournament held in Penampang in 2009, the KK men’s team defeated Sandakan in a hard-fought final to reclaim the championship after a seven-year wait. Remarkably, they managed to defend their title for the next two years, finally achieving their three-consecutive-year hegemony during the 2011 tournament held in Kota Kinabalu.
According to tournament records, this specific Challenge Cup dates back to 1989. After Tawau completed a four-year winning streak in 1988, their run was interrupted by Labuan the following year. For the 22 years that followed, no team was able to claim the title three times in a row. As a result, this trophy is the “oldest throne” in the KKBA’s collection.
虽然从2009年至2011由亚庇男队称霸了三届，2012年由京那巴当岸中断了一次，接着亚庇再次奋发而上，也终于从2013至2015年写下了第二个三连冠的记录，值得一提的是，从2013年开始，这项全州赛的年龄限制由18岁以下改为17岁以下。

Sabah U17 (Boys) 2013-2015
Although the KK boy’s team dominated for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011, their streak was interrupted by Kinabatangan in 2012. Undeterred, KK rallied once more and successfully recorded a second “three-peat” from 2013 to 2015. It is worth noting that starting in 2013, the age limit for this state-level tournament was lowered from Under-18 to Under-17.
The journey to this second milestone began when the KK boy’s team reclaimed the title in Kinabatangan. They successfully defended their championship the following year in Lahad Datu, before finally heading to Tenom in 2015 to realize their goal of a second triple crown.

Sabah U18 (Girls) 2011-2013
The backstory behind this Challenge Cup is rather complex. Although the KK girl’s team achieved a “three-peat” between 2008 and 2010, the Sabah Basketball Association (SBA) introduced a new Challenge Cup starting in 2011. However, by 2013, the SBA lowered the tournament age limit to Under-17, recalled the previous trophy, and issued yet another new Challenge Cup.
Due to a “calculation error” regarding these changes, this particular Challenge Cup was not officially retired until 2016, even though the team had actually achieved four consecutive championships by then.
Regardless of the administrative confusion, the KKBA records must attribute the honors from 2011 to 2016 (a six-year winning streak) to this single Challenge Cup. Among all the trophies in the collection, this one stands out as a unique anomaly.

Sabah U16 (Boys) 2003-2005
This Challenge Cup holds a unique place in history as the first one ever truly secured by the KKBA. While the first Sabah Cup (Women’s) Challenge Cup was earned between 2009 and 2011, and the first State U-18 (Girl’s) Challenge Cup was won between 2008 and 2010, the first-ever State U-16 Challenge Cup was actually captured earlier, from 2003 to 2005. This victory signaled the beginning of KKBA’s era of dominance across all state-level competitions.
According to tournament records, the State U-16 Championships began in 1992. Sandakan successfully achieved a “three-peat” from the 2nd edition (1993) to the 5th edition (1995); following that, a decade passed without any team being able to claim the Challenge Cup.
However, as the KKBA youth development program gradually matured, the team secured its first title in 1999. Starting with a championship victory in Semporna in 2003, they went on to successfully complete their three-year reign over the following two years.
尽管2006年遭到拿笃男队的“破坏”，亚庇男队没法拿下四连冠，但是从2007年斗亚兰举行的第15届全州16岁以下赛事上，亚庇再度棒杯，而且到2009年已经连续三年称霸，棒走了亚庇男队的第二个挑战杯。
Sabah U16 (Boys) 2007-2009
Despite the Lahad Datu men’s team “disrupting” their streak in 2006 and preventing a four-year reign, the KK boy’s team bounced back at the 15th State U-16 Championships held in Tuaran in 2007 to reclaim the trophy. By 2009, they had successfully dominated the competition for three consecutive years, officially securing the KK boy’s team’s second Challenge Cup.
紧接着在2010年，亚庇男队继续发挥夺冠的决心，也是一口气连续三年(2010至2012)拿下冠军锦标，实现了亚庇男队的第三个挑战杯。
Sabah U18 (Boys) 2010-2012
Immediately following that in 2010, the KK boy’s team continued to demonstrate their championship resolve, sweeping the titles for three consecutive years (2010 to 2012) to secure the KK men’s team’s third Challenge Cup.
亚庇女队与男队所不同的是，必须等到2009年才开始称霸，不过却一口气就拿下了六连冠。
作为亚庇女队在全州16岁以下赛事上夺下的第一个挑战杯，是从2009年直至2011年。
Sabah U16 (Girls) 2009-2011
Unlike the boy’s team, the KK girl’s team had to wait until 2009 to begin their reign of dominance; however, once they started, they remarkably captured six consecutive championships in one go.
The first Challenge Cup won by the KK women’s team in the State Under-16 Championships covered their winning streak from 2009 through 2011.
亚庇女队与男队所不同的是，必须等到2009年才开始称霸，不过却一口气就拿下了六连冠。
至于亚庇女队在全州16岁以下赛事上夺下的第二个挑战杯，是从2012年直至2014年。
Sabah U16 (Girls) 2012-2014
Unlike the men’s team, the KK women’s team did not begin their era of dominance until 2009; however, they made up for lost time by capturing six consecutive championships in one go.
As for their second Challenge Cup in the State Under-16 Championships, it was secured through their back-to-back victories from 2012 to 2014.

由亚庇、美里、汶莱及纳闽四个城市轮流主办的婆罗洲城市杯，始于上世纪九十年代，主办初期并没有设定挑战杯，直至三大组别皆有固定的赞助人，即美里篮协赞助男子组挑战杯、汶莱篮总赞助女子组挑战杯，以及亚庇篮总赞助宿将组的挑战杯。
亚庇女队从2008年就开称霸婆罗洲杯，不过从2011年开始展开了“断杯”之路，直至2013年美里轮办的赛事上，亚庇女队不仅实现三连冠，也棒走了这座挑战杯。
在某个意义上来说，这是亚庇篮总的第一个婆罗洲挑战杯。
Borneo Cup (Women) 2011-2013
Borneo City Cup, hosted on a rotational basis by the four cities of Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Brunei, and Labuan, traces its history back to the 1990s. In its early years, there was no designated Challenge Cup; it wasn’t until later that permanent sponsors were established for the three major categories: the Miri Basketball Association sponsored the Men’s Challenge Cup, the Brunei Basketball Association sponsored the Women’s Challenge Cup, and the Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) sponsored the Veteran’s Challenge Cup.
The KK women’s team began their era of dominance in the Borneo Cup in 2008. However, their official journey toward claiming the trophy permanently began in 2011. By the 2013 tournament hosted in Miri, the KK women not only achieved a “three-peat” but also successfully took home the Challenge Cup.
In a significant sense, this marked the very first Borneo Challenge Cup secured by the KKBA.
尽管在2013年夺下第一个挑战杯之后，亚庇女队夺冠的决心没有停顿下来，也从2014年至2016年棒走了第二个挑战杯。
Borneo Cup (Women) 2014-2016
Even after capturing their first Challenge Cup in 2013, the KK women’s team showed no signs of slowing down. Their unwavering determination led them to sweep the titles from 2014 to 2016, successfully securing their second Challenge Cup.
从2000年开始的第2届赛事开办宿将组赛事以来，亚庇男宿将队一直都无法拿下冠军，直到2011年才开始摸到了第一个冠军，接着也在三年内夺下了第一个宿将组的挑战杯。
Borneo Cup (Veteran) 2011-2013
Since the introduction of the Veteran category in the 2nd edition of the tournament in 2000, the KK Men’s Veteran team had struggled to clinch a title. It wasn’t until 2011 that they finally secured their first championship, subsequently going on to capture their first Veteran’s Challenge Cup within a three-year span.
