为了朝向篮球商业化发展及长期培育青年球员，亚庇篮总终于在2007 年开始筹划了＂亚庇篮球联赛＂，以期有长达三四个月的赛期，把本地篮运发展推向另一高峰。
一项如此盛大的赛事活动，所需的经费固然庞大，经过了与多个商家接洽后，终于与亚洲城产业发展有限金司主席拿督丁永超博士达成协议，由其公司赞助下，第一届亚洲城亚庇篮球联赛订在 2007 年假亚庇民众会堂开赛。
是项赛会乃仿效美国职篮，先进行第一轮单循环的初赛圈，接着才进入的决赛圈，两个赛圈皆有冠军锦标，有所不同的是，初赛圈只允许本地球员上阵而己，而在决赛圈则可聘请两名外援球员（国手或海外球员）。
而且只有最高积分的五支队伍才可晋入决赛圈。
同时，赛会也采取严格的球员注册条例，明文规定球员转会与合约之间的协议。
经过了篮总的努力下，首届赛事也成功召集了六支球队，他们皆是有商业公司背后支援下所组建的强旅，分别为亚洲企业，亚洲城酒店防日，世纪机械，大陆沙浪，热谷和美罗轮胎。
直至2016 年，联赛只剩下了亚洲企业、UjanaKingfisher、Marlins I-World 和UGBC 四队而己。
亚洲企业于2011年易名为热谷亚洲，隔届再换回“ 亚洲企业”。
达迈体育樱花于2013年易名为“ 达迈体育蓝星”。
亚洲城酒店防日于2014年易名为“ 防日”。
从2014 年第6 届联赛开始颁发“ 最佳少年球员”奖， 由陈勇政( 世纪机械) 当选。
To facilitate the commercialization of basketball and the long-term cultivation of youth players,Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) began planning the “Kota Kinabalu Basketball League” (KKBL) in 2007. The league was envisioned with a three-to-four-month season to propel the development of local basketball to new heights.
An event of this magnitude required substantial funding. After negotiations with various businesses, an agreement was reached with Datuk Dr. Ting Ing Chiew, Chairman of Asia City Development Sdn Bhd. Under the company’s sponsorship, the inaugural Asia City KKBL was scheduled to tip off in 2007 at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall.
The competition was modeled after the NBA, featuring a two-stage format:
Preliminary Round: A single round-robin format. To prioritize local talent, only local players were permitted to play during this stage.
Finals: The top five teams with the highest points advanced to this stage. In a departure from the preliminary rules, teams were allowed to hire two “import” players (either national or overseas players).
Both the preliminary and final rounds featured their own championship trophies. Additionally, the KKBA implemented strict player registration regulations, clearly defining agreements regarding player transfers and contracts.
Through the efforts of the KKBA, six powerhouse teams—all backed by commercial sponsors—were recruited for the first season:AD Asia, Asia City Hotel-SunGard,Century Machinery (Cen-Mac), Darulsalam, Hot Valley and Metro Tyre
By 2016, the league had narrowed down to four competing teams: AD Asia, Ujana Kingfisher, Marlins I-World and UGBC.
AD Asia changed its name to Hot Valley- AD Asia in 2011, before reverting to AD Asia the following season.
Damai Sports-Sakura was renamed Damai Sports Blue Star in 2013.
Asia City Hotel-SunGard was shortened to SunGard in 2014.
Starting from the 6th edition in 2014, the league introduced the “Best Youth Player” award. The first recipient was Tan Yong Zheng (Century Machinery).

初赛圈的序幕战是于2007年6月9日展开，并邀得州资源发展及资讯工艺部长拿督于墨斋医生亲临主持开幕，比赛订在每周六及周日举行。
由于各队的实力不伯相仲，战情非常激烈，美罗轮胎与亚洲城酒店防日皆取以7 胜3 负登顶，但前者两度战胜对手而拿下第1 名，两队各得1,000 和500 令吉奖金。
接着，两队在初赛圈争霸时，美罗轮胎戏剧性起死回生，把比赛逼入加时后，以80 比78扭转战胜亚洲城酒店防日，成为初赛圈双料冠军。
在7月22日当晚，也邀得里卡士区州议员拿督刘德泉主持颁奖仪式。
至于决赛圈乃订在10月08日至10月14日举行，最高分的五队（亚洲企业，亚洲城酒店防日，世纪机械，大陆沙浪和美罗轮胎）晋级，在当晚邀得永久名誉顾问拿督杨德利主持开球仪式。
经过了十二场硬战后，大热沙浪和亚洲城酒店防日以最高积分杀入总决赛，亚洲城酒店防日以90 比86 险胜对手而夺得首届决赛圈冠军归！
当晚也邀得州资源发资讯工艺部助理部长谢秋菊亲临主持颁奖。
The preliminary round tipped off on June 9, 2007, with matches scheduled every Saturday and Sunday. The opening ceremony was graced by the State Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai.
As the competing teams were closely matched, the battles on the court were incredibly intense. Both Metro Tyre and Asia City Hotel-SunGard finished at the top of the standings with identical records of 7 wins and 3 losses. However, Metro Tyre secured first place by virtue of defeating Asia City Hotel-SunGard twice during the season. The two teams were awarded prize money of RM1,000 and RM500, respectively.
The drama peaked during the preliminary championship match. In a stunning comeback, Metro Tyre forced the game into overtime and eventually snatched an 80–78 victory over Asia City Hotel-SunGard, successfully becoming the “double champions” of the preliminary round. On the night of July 22, Likas State Assemblyman, Datuk Liew Teck Chan, presided over the awards ceremony.
The final stage took place from October 8 to October 14, featuring the top five teams:
- AD Asia,
- Asia City Hotel-SunGard
- Century Machinery
- Darulsalam
- Metro Tyre
The tip-off ceremony for the finals was officiated by Permanent Honorary Advisor Datuk Yong Teck Lee.
After twelve grueling matches, Darulsalam and Asia City Hotel-SunGard emerged as the top contenders for the Grand Final. In a nail-biting finish, Asia City Hotel-SunGard narrowly defeated their opponents 90–86 to claim the inaugural KKBL Championship title. The closing awards ceremony was attended by the Assistant Minister of State Resource Development and Information Technology, Datuk Melanie Chia Chui Ket.
踏入2008年，亚洲城亚庇篮球联赛迈入第2届，这一届少了热谷队，只余下5队赴会，初赛圈订在9月19日掀开战幔，由州青年及体育部长拿督彭恩荣主持开幕。
第2 届赛会的初赛圈排名大执位，去年跌跌撞撞打入决赛圈的亚洲企业，并借“ 三剑客”洪浚豪、华特森与赫柏3人平均都有双位数得分演出下，一枝独秀以不败战绩(8胜0负) 夺得初赛圈冠军，去年殿军世纪机械为球队补强后，也成功收下亚军席位。
可是，隔日举行的决赛圈，情势大扭转，由于决赛圈采用单循环直接产生决赛资格，所以战情更为激烈。
在总决赛中，初赛圈冠军的亚洲企业却遭亚军的世纪机械以87比108挫败，拥有两名特出菲律宾外援助阵的世纪机械摘下了决赛圈冠军锦标。
主办当局也邀请了沙巴篮总会长张经强前来主持闭幕及颁奖仪式。
In 2008, the Asia City KKBL entered its second season. With the absence of Hot Valley, the field was reduced to five competing teams. The preliminary round commenced on September 19, with the opening ceremony officiated by the State Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Peter Pang En Yin.
The standings saw a major reshuffle during the second edition’s preliminary round. AD Asia who had struggled to reach the finals the previous year, dominated the court. Led by the “Three Musketeers”—Ang Joon Hao, Fadisyam Ismail and Hebert—who all averaged double-digit scores, the team finished with a perfect 8–0 record to claim the preliminary championship. Century Machinery, last year’s fourth-place finishers, successfully bolstered their roster to secure the runner-up spot.
However, the tide turned during the Finals, which followed immediately. The stakes were higher as the format shifted to a single round-robin to determine the finalists, making every match significantly more intense.
In the Grand Final, the undefeated preliminary champions, AD Asia suffered a heavy 87–108 defeat at the hands of Century Machinery. Bolstered by two exceptional Filipino import players, Century Machinery powered through to seize the championship title.
The closing and prize-presentation ceremony was graced by the President of the Sabah Basketball Association, Cheong Keng Chiang.
第3届的亚洲城亚庇篮球联赛原订在2009年年尾开打，结果却因亚庇民众会堂进行长达数个月的装潢及提升工程，所以赛事被逼展延进行。
不过，在2010年，亚庇联赛再度开办，仍然保留了第2 届的5 支强旅出征，虽然相隔两年后，亚洲企业依然凭着本土球员的雄厚实力，力撼其他队伍，以7 胜1负的佳绩蝉联了初赛圈冠军，亚洲城酒店防日屈居亚军。
晋入决赛圈之后，亚洲企业虽然4战报捷，却在总决赛的关键性最后一战，却以63比53不敌亚洲城酒店防日，让后者继2007 年首届赛会再度挂冠。
The 3rd Asia City KKBL was originally scheduled to commence in late 2009. However, the tournament was forced into a hiatus due to extensive renovation and upgrading works at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall, which lasted for several months.
The league finally resumed in 2010, featuring the same five powerhouse teams from the second season. Despite the two-year gap, AD Asia continued to showcase the formidable strength of their local roster. They dominated the competition with an impressive 7–1 record to successfully defend their title as preliminary round champions, while Asia City Hotel-SunGard had to settle for the runner-up spot.
Moving into the Finals, AD Asia maintained their momentum with four consecutive victories. However, the tide turned in the decisive Grand Final. In a low-scoring, high-stakes battle, AD Asia fell to Asia City Hotel-SunGard with a score of 63–53. This victory allowed Asia City Hotel-SunGard to reclaim the throne, earning their second championship since the inaugural 2007 season.
到了2011的第4届，美罗轮胎和大陆沙浪皆退出竞赛，大陆沙浪主将高仁杰自组达迈体育樱花，同时也加入另一支新队伍－－大雅酒店。
在一个全新的局势下，以山打根球员为主的达迈体育樱花似乎愈战愈勇，最终以7胜1负拿下了初赛圈冠军。
在决赛圈中，众强旅皆力争上游，尤其亚洲企业的实力稍胜一筹，以4战全胜的雄恣踏足总决赛，但遗憾的是，以75比76一分之差败于达迈体育樱花，再度失意于总决赛，反观达迈体育樱花横扫决赛圈及初赛圈冠军，缔造了双料冠军的辉煌记录。
达迈体育樱花队成为第四届双冠王，也是历史上惟一夺过双料冠军的队伍。
By the 4th KKBL in 2011, both Metro Tyre and Darulsalam withdrew from the competition. In their wake, Darulsalam’s star player, Koh Yen Kee, formed a new team called Damai Sports Sakura, while another newcomer, Daya Hotel also joined the fray.
Under this new competitive landscape, Damai Sports Sakura—composed primarily of players from Sandakan—showed increasing dominance as the season progressed. They ultimately secured the preliminary round championship with a strong 7–1 record.
In the Finals, every powerhouse team pushed for the top spot. AD Asia appeared to be the strongest contender, storming into the Grand Final with a perfect 4–0 record in the final stage. However, history repeated itself in heartbreaking fashion; they lost the final by a single point, 75–76, to Damai Sports Sakura. While AD Asia once again fell short at the final hurdle, Damai Sports Sakura swept both the preliminary and final championships.
With this feat, Damai Sports Sakura was crowned the “Double Champions” of the 4th KKBL, making them the only team in the league’s history to have ever achieved a clean sweep of both titles in a single season.
亚庇篮总原计划2012年主办第5届赛会，但却因场地及其他技术性问题被展延至2013年才举行。而且，赞助商也正式换成STC( 山打根赛马俱乐部)，不过比赛性制依然保持不变。
至于上届冠军达迈体育樱花也正式易名为达迈体育蓝星，与此同时，主办当局招徕了UnderGod-EverRich 和Ujana Kingfisher 两支新队，他们皆是近年来各项大小赛事的常客，随着其实力不断增长下，也就正式加入联赛的行列。
同时，今届联赛创造了历史，选择了初赛圈其中一个星期的赛事移师至山打根举行。
在初赛圈，这6 支队伍的竞争陷入胶着状态，没有任何队伍能够一技独秀，新秀的UnderGod-EverRich 在不被看好的情况下，以8胜2负拿下了初赛圈冠军。
由于达迈体育蓝星放弃参加决赛圈，另五支劲旅也就自动晋入决赛圈，至于一直与决赛圈无缘的亚洲企业，凭着Chester Tolomia 的加盟，终于粉碎了不胜的诅咒，在总决赛以71比53 挫败世纪机械后，第一次摘下了冠军。
KKBA originally planned to host the 5th edition of the tournament in 2012, but due to venue issues and other technical complications, the event was postponed until 2013. Additionally, the primary sponsorship officially transitioned to STC (Sandakan Turf Club), though the league’s competitive format remained unchanged.
The defending champions, Damai Sports Sakura, officially changed their name to Damai Sports Blue Star. Meanwhile, the organizers successfully recruited two new teams: UnderGod-EverRich and Ujana Kingfisher. Both teams had been frequent participants in various local tournaments, and with their growing strength, they officially joined the league ranks.
This season also marked a historic milestone, as the organizers moved one week of the preliminary round matches to Sandakan.
The competition among the six teams in the preliminary round was incredibly tight, with no single team dominating the field. Ultimately, the underdog newcomers UnderGod-EverRich defied expectations to clinch the preliminary championship with an 8–2 record.
Because Damai Sports Blue Star withdrew from the Finals, the other five powerhouses automatically advanced. For AD Asia, a team that had long been plagued by a “finals curse,” the addition of Chester Tolomia proved to be the turning point. They finally shattered their streak of misfortune, defeating Century Machinery 71–53 in the Grand Final to claim their first-ever championship title.
第6届的联赛终于订在2014年06月13日掀幕，经过八年来的洗礼后，已被喻为州内最受注目及质量最高的篮坛盛事，而这一年随着达迈体育蓝星不再参赛后，主办当局引进了篮坛常客的诗华T&S，也正式凑足了六支强旅的局面。
自第2 届登顶的老牌战队－－世纪机械，经过了三届一蹶不振之后，终于大发神威以7胜3 负的记录，攀上了初赛圈冠军。
不过，世纪机械凭着不可忽视的力量杀入总决赛，又次重演了上届总决赛，遇上了老对手－亚洲企业，依然撼不动Chester Tolomia的威胁，由亚洲企业以92比65大胜而出，亚洲企业也因而成为了第一支蝉联了决赛圈冠军的队伍。
The 6th edition of the league finally tipped off on June 13, 2014. After eight years of evolution, the tournament had established itself as the most high-profile and prestigious basketball event in the state. Following the withdrawal of Damai Sports Blue Star, the organizers introduced See Hua T&S, a regular fixture in the local basketball scene, rounding out a formidable six-team lineup.
The veteran squad Century Machinery, which had not tasted major success since winning the title in the 2nd edition, finally regained its dominant form. They finished the preliminary round with a 7–3 record to reclaim the top spot as preliminary champions.
Century Machinery carried this momentum into the Finals, setting the stage for a rematch of the previous year’s championship battle against their old rivals, AD Asia. However, they once again found no answer for the threat posed by Chester Tolomia.
AD Asia cruised to a commanding 92–65 victory, making history as the first team to successfully defend their Finals championship title.
到了第九年的亚庇联赛，从第一届就参赛的防日退出了这个舞台，所幸该队的球员另行找到赞助商，组成了Marlins/I-World 重披战袍，也许是新球队有新气象，一开赛就打出了不败的记录，直至双循环赛后，该队写了九胜一败的新记录，登上了初赛圈的冠军宝座，风头一时无俩。
到了决赛圈，四支强旅都出尽了法宝，尤其亚洲企业召回了两届致胜功臣的Chester Tolomia，世纪机械则出动了体格强壮的菲籍战车，Marlins/I-World 与Ujana Kingfisher 也趁着初赛圈之威，展开了史上最激烈的决赛！
经过了一番较量后，原看好的世纪机械可以凭着一口气杀入决赛，却在硬碰亚洲企业的关键一役中“ 失蹄”，净输十七分拱手让后者再闯决赛，与Ujana Kingfisher 争夺冠军宝座。
由Tolomia 把关的亚洲企业，在总决赛中无法抗衡勇不可挡的Nicol Bolos，这位Ujana Kingfisher 大前锋在禁区内横闯直撞，以84比7夺冠，亚洲企业也因而无法完成三连冠的霸业！
Entering its ninth year, the KKBL saw the departure of SunGard, a mainstay since the inaugural season. Fortunately, the team’s players secured new sponsorship to form Marlins/I-World. This new identity seemed to spark a fresh momentum; the team launched an incredible campaign, finishing the double round-robin stage with a record-breaking 9–1 run. Their dominance earned them the preliminary round championship, making them the team to beat.
As the tournament moved into the Finals, the four remaining powerhouses pulled out all the stops. AD Asia recalled their two-time championship hero, Chester Tolomia, while Century Machinery deployed a powerhouse Filipino “tank” to dominate the paint. Bolstered by their preliminary success, Marlins/I-World and Ujana Kingfisher joined the fray, resulting in the most fiercely contested Finals in the league’s history.
Despite being the favorites to reach the Grand Final, Century Machinery stumbled in a high-stakes showdown against AD Asia. A crushing 17-point loss forced them to concede the final spot to AD Asia, who advanced to face Ujana Kingfisher for the title.
In the Grand Final, even the presence of Tolomia could not stabilize AD Asia against the unstoppable Nico Bolos. The Ujana Kingfisher power forward dominated the paint, leading his team to an 84–75 victory. With this result, Ujana Kingfisher claimed the throne, effectively ending AD Asia’s dreams of a three-peat dynasty.
晋入第十年，亚庇联赛面临了最大的考验，世纪机械与诗华相继退赛，由于只剩下四队，大家都意兴阑珊，不过经过一番周旋后，各队伍皆表态再次支持下，才终于让第八届联赛如期举行。
也由于参赛队伍只有四队，因此初赛圈的比赛时间缩短至两个星期，至于决赛圈也缩短至四天而己。
在初赛圈，老牌的亚洲企业由Helbert Legada 与一批少年球员出场，原是志在参与，但却意外地愈打愈出色，以4胜2负的佳绩拿下相隔四届之后的初赛圈冠军。
到了决赛圈，Ujana Kingfisher 再凭着Nicol Bolos 与Argel Mendoza 的双组合，震撼了全场，杀入总决赛的Marlins/I-World 也给了重炮的一击，可是最终75比82落败，让Ujana Kingfisher保住了冠军宝座。
隔年，亚庇篮总原计划在七月中旬主办亚庇联赛，但UGBC随着宣布退出后，无法筹足四队参赛而被迫展期。
Entering its tenth year, the KKBL faced its toughest challenge yet. With the successive withdrawals of Century Machinery and See Hua, and only four teams remaining, enthusiasm for the league had begun to wane. However, after extensive negotiations and a renewed show of support from the remaining teams, the 8th edition of the league finally proceeded as scheduled.
Due to the limited field of four teams, the competition schedule was significantly tightened: the preliminary round was reduced to two weeks, while the Finals stage lasted only four days.
In the preliminary round, the veteran AD Asia fielded a roster led by Helbert Legada alongside a group of youth players. Although they initially entered with a “just-for-participation” mindset, their performance grew increasingly impressive. They defied expectations to finish with a 4–2 record, clinching the preliminary championship for the first time in four seasons.
During the Finals, Ujana Kingfisher once again electrified the crowd with the powerhouse duo of Nico Bolos and Argel Mendoza. Their opponents in the Grand Final, Marlins/I-World, put up a valiant fight and delivered heavy offensive blows, but ultimately fell short with a 75–82 loss. The victory allowed Ujana Kingfisher to successfully defend their championship title.
The following year, the KKBA originally planned to host the league in mid-July. However, following UGBC’s announcement of their withdrawal, the organizers were unable to secure the minimum requirement of four teams, forcing the tournament into an indefinite postponement.
