An Introduction to the Establishment and Evolution of Our Platform
In 2009, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin officiated the launch ceremony of the original KKBA website.
The Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) website (www.kkba.org) was officially launched on August 9, 2009, by Datuk Datuk Peter Pang En Yin, the then Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister of Youth and Sports. It marked a historic milestone as the first basketball association website in the state.
The website was unveiled during the swearing-in ceremony of the 26th KKBA Board of Directors and was spearheaded by Information Technology Director, Mr. Teo Lip Ching.
Entering the Information Age
As the first-ever website in the local basketball scene, its launch signaled KKBA’s official entry into the IT era after over 50 years of history. The goal was to leverage digital communication to engage the younger generation more effectively and disseminate news and information regarding the association’s activities more broadly.
The concept of a website had been in the works for a long time. A decade prior, Mr. Teo had proposed an internal-only site during a board meeting; however, due to the technological limitations and timing of that era, the project was eventually shelved.
A Historic First Step
Despite setbacks, KKBA successfully took its first historic leap in 2004. With the approval of the then-Chairman, Datuk Goh Tian Chuan, the association built the state’s first tournament-specific website for the 35th State Youth (U18) Basketball Championship held in Kota Kinabalu. By providing daily updates on match results and data, the site allowed the public to follow the pulse of the tournament, opening a new chapter for Sabah basketball.
Following the election of the new board in 2009, the newly appointed Chairman, Mr. Fung Chun Fatt, re-adopted the proposal to establish a permanent website. Mr. Teo and his team worked tirelessly to complete the site within two weeks, which was then officially approved and adopted by the board.
The KKBA website was designed around three main pillars:
Real-Time Information: Publishing the latest news, match results, and progress reports on upcoming tournaments.
Digital Archiving: Systematic record-keeping of KKBA’s history and data to preserve these precious historical records for future generations.
Community Interaction: Featuring blogs and forums to provide an open platform for netizens to discuss the development of basketball in Kota Kinabalu.
Evolution and Modernization
July 2014: The website underwent a redesign and migrated to the www.kkba.co domain.
2018 onwards: The association began actively using Facebook (www.facebook.com/kkbasabah) to post real-time updates and scores, better catering to the needs of fans.
Expansion: An official Instagram account was later launched (www.instagram.com/kkba.official/).
2025: The website was revamped once again, transitioning to its current domain: www.kkba.org.my.
